Class Descriptions
CREATIVE MOVEMENT
This class is for our youngest stars; students can begin at 18 months. During this 45-minute class, dancers will explore a variety of movement styles and participate in fun engaging activities. Students will learn musicality and some dance basics.

PRESCHOOL COMBO
This hour-long class is specifically designed for preschoolers and young 5's. The class emphasizes tap and ballet technique with students learning a dance in each style to perform in the annual spring recital. The class also includes tumbling, public speaking, singing, some jazz and hip-hop, and much more. The goal is to make each student love to dance while learning the basics. We want each child to have FUN at dance class.
Level 1- Beginner students
Level 2- Previous enrollment in PS Combo 1 or dancers with 1-year ballet/tap experience

ELEMENTARY COMBO
Try three styles in one with our specially designed Elementary Combos for 5-7 year old dancers. Weekly instruction includes Tap, Jazz and Ballet, and also fun extras like Acro. This class is a great way to decide on a favorite style of dance or to get the foundation to move on to the next level. Class placement is based on experience.
Level 1 (1hr)- new dancers or dancers with some previous experience such as Preschool Combo. (Ballet and Tap shoes needed, see style below)
Level 2- more advanced with previous enrollment in Elementary Combo 1. (Jazz and Tap shoes needed, see style below)

BALLET
A classical form of dance that is considered by many to be the core foundation for a great dance education. Dancers wear ballet slippers and a leotard and tights to class. We offer options for beginners through advanced levels.
POINTE and PRE-POINTE
For intermediate/advanced dancers with significant ballet experience. Enrollment requires teacher approval and must also include concurrent enrollment in a ballet class. Pre-Pointe dancers will begin the season in "flat" ballet shoes. The teacher will advise the student on the appropriate time to purchase pointe shoes and assist in fitting shoes.

A cross between ballet and jazz with some story telling in the mix. Lyrical is a beautiful dance style, which requires some basic technique to be most rewarding. It is geared to dancers who have some experience.

TAP
Characterized by the sounds made by the metal taps on the shoes, tap dancing is a great way to help learn the rhythm of the music. Classes use upbeat dance music from current performers and some classics too. Powerhouse Dance prides itself in offering top-notch training for tap dancers in the area.
HIP-HOP
If you’ve seen a music video, you’ve likely seen Hip-Hop in action. Fast moving, with unique popping motions and a chance for dancers to create a style all their own, this dance form is a lot of fun watch and perform. Dancers can where sneakers to class and any clothing that allows them to move well. Classes are available for preschoolers- young Elementary (Hip Hop Tots) and general ages 7 and up based on experience.

CONTEMPORARY
With roots in Modern dance and ballet, this style is for a dancer wishing to push themselves to think outside the box. Improvisation is a component of the class as is learning to move in a seemingly unstructured format.
BOYS
All of our classes are open to boys as well as girls. Dancing helps with learning to count music and to be physically active. Parents of boys also often remark that dance lessons help in sports. We really encourage anyone interested to try out a class. As an added bonus, all male students receive half price tuition.

Acro/Tumbling
For the safety of all participates, female acro students must wear full leggings or capris along with with either a leotard or form fitting tank top. A leotard with tights is permitted, booty shorts may only be worn with tights underneath. Baggy clothing is not acceptable. Hair must be tied up and away from the face in a bun or short ponytail. Male acro students should wear long athletic shorts or long pants. Shirt should be not be baggy. Acro dancers are bare foot during class.
